3 Fun Things to Do on Father’s Day in Lakeland, Alberta

May. 25, 2018

Father’s Day is coming up on June 17th, and it can get pretty stressful if you don’t know what to buy your Dad. Maybe your dad lives far away or maybe he’s a simple man who is difficult to shop for. How are you supposed to shower him with some extra love in such situations? We can help with things to do on Father’s Day in the Lakeland.

There are many things to do on Father’s Day that are much more exciting than going to the same restaurant you’ve been eating at for years or sending a store-bought card.

If you live in the Lakeland, consider doing these three unique Father’s Day activities.

1. Enjoy Some History and Heritage

Whether you’ve lived in Lakeland all your life or you’ve decided to take a father/daughter or father/son trip here, there’s plenty of history all around. All you have to do is look for it.

A great place to start is at the Cold Lake Museums. This is a particularly special treat if your dad loves history or if he served in the line of duty in his time. The Cold Lake Museums is a group of four separate buildings with their own thems, all connected by a walkway.

The buildings are for:

  • the Aboriginal Gallery
  • the Heritage Gallery
  • the Oil and Gas Gallery
  • the Air Force Museum

Speaking of the Air Force, don’t forget there’s a Canadian Air Force Base in the area, too. You can visit, and also keep an eye out for any fighter planes flying above you while you’re in town!

2. Spend the Day Outdoors

Remember all the times your dad took you camping or the day he taught you how to fish? Father’s Day is a great excuse to relive such memories. Not to mention, it’s as good of an opportunity as ever to do these things together for the first time if you never had the chance — and Cold Lake is known as a prime fishing spot in Alberta!

Take him fishing on a dock by the lake or hiking on one of the trails in Cold Lake Provincial Park. If your father is a bit older or you want to include your grandfather on the activities, simply take a scenic drive to enjoy the nature all around the Lakeland.

You may have to get creative depending on certain health conditions or restrictions. But, as long as the suns out, there are plenty of ways you can all enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds.

3. Go to a Show

Speaking of sights and sounds, when was the last time you and your father went to a show together? If you haven’t been to the movies since you were watching cartoons, skip the big screen and head straight to a theatre.

Theatre performances are always more personal, and exciting to be in the audience for. You can watch most movies via streaming services nowadays anyway. But, nothing compares to feeling the excitement and passion of actors on stage right in front of you.

Check out what shows are coming up to see if your dad might be interested in watching something with you!
