From distillery tours to museums to nightlife, we’ve got something for you. The best part? You won’t have to worry about rain because they’re all indoors.

Ready?

Top 5 Fun Indoor Things to Do in Cold Lake

1. Try Locally Brewed Beer and Distilled Vodka

How does a glass of honey-flavoured vodka or French Bay IPA sound? If you enjoy sampling different types of craft beer and handmade spirits, then you must visit the Cold Lake Brewing & Distilling Co.

Opened in 2016, this brewery and distillery combo offers tours from Thursday to Sunday. You can learn how they infuse local ingredients from Hapskap berries to honey from their very own bee farm to make their drinks and then, try some!

2. Plan A Family Fun Day

Open to members and the public all year round, the Cold Lake Energy Centre is a family favourite among locals.

Children can learn to skate, play hockey, or jump around in bouncy houses. Parents can either join them or check out a workout class by themselves. Every Wednesday, there is a “drop off the kids while you workout” event from 5 pm to 8 pm, to help parents get in shape while kids enjoy arts and crafts. Check out the centre’s calendar for special events.

3. Learn About Cold Lake’s History

What was Cold Lake before Cold Lake?

If you’re curious about how Cold Lake became the town that it is today, step back in time at the Cold Lake Museum and Cold Lake Air Force Museum.

Both museums are housed next to each other in buildings that once served the Canadian Air Force. The museums display Aboriginal artifacts, document the life of settlers at Cold Lake before WWII, the oil sands industry and how the Cold War played a crucial role in shaping this town.

4. Admire Award-Winning Art

The Janvier Gallery features the work of Aboriginal abstract artist, Alex Janvier.

Janvier is known for his abstract paintings and has received many accolades for his art and activism for Indigenous rights. His artwork is described as “an eloquent blend of both abstract and representational images with bright, often symbolic colours.”

The museum rotates exhibitions and features Janvier’s works from early days to present day. The gallery is only open by appointment.

5. Catch A Show or Try Your Hands in Theatre

If you are in need of a good laugh, check out our latest comedy shows such as Nunsense, a hilarious musical about five nuns trying to hide the deaths of their 52 accidentally poisoned sisters.

Or, if you want to try your hands in theatre and art, check out one of our workshops for adults to bring out the creative side in you.
