Are you a creative person looking to get more involved in your local community of friendly creatives? When you’re volunteering at the Grande Parlour, there’s no pressure. But there’s lots to do if you want to dive into the exciting role of volunteering. Giving back to your community is an empowering choice, and highly rewarding too.
Here’s why taking part in volunteer activities in the creative space is a great choice.
Volunteering is a great way to learn something new!
We won’t pressure you into doing something you don’t want to do. We’re just grateful for your time. But there will be opportunities to observe and take part in a wealth of activities. It’s the perfect “safe” environment to develop new creative skills, under the watchful eye of more experienced members of the team.
Don’t worry about mistakes – we don’t either. We just want to to have a great time while you’re hanging out with us.
Working in a new way will help you find great ideas for your next project. This is because you gain new perspectives on many different things when working with other creative types.
If you’re a budding designer, for example, you might find a spark of light in the stage design for an edgy new play. It’s much better than trawling through Pinterest or Instagram for inspiration! You’ll also get the sense of giving something back to your community that will brighten your day.
You’re going to meet a ton of talented people, from sound designers to directors and prop-builders. Meeting these people may open up opportunities for your own business in the future. The arts community is a friendly space, and we look after our own.
It’s definitely not all work, work, work here. Volunteering at the Grande Parlour gives you the chance to meet loads of similar-minded people from all walks of life. We’ve got a mission to put on great shows, and that’s our priority. But when it’s all over, we love hanging out together. Many of our volunteers go on to build life-long friendships, which is always hugely rewarding for us.
If you’re not a freelance creative, are you stuck in that old Catch-22? You can’t find work for lack of experience but can’t gain experience because right now you don’t have a job in the industry you want to work in. It’s possibly the most frustrating thing in the world.
Volunteering activities give you the opportunity to get that experience. We want to help you on your way, and we’ll do what we can to make sure you leave with the skills you need to succeed. As a resume piece, volunteering looks impressive and directly improves your chances of finding a job.
Ready to take to the stage? Whatever it is you have to offer, we want to hear from you. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or are still learning. An extra pair of hands is always welcome. Support your community, and it’ll support you.
