Building the Foundation of Arts in our Community!!

Starting February 13th, 2020 The Cold Lake Arts and Entertainment Society(CLAES) will be offering a full scale theatrical workshop to teens ages 13 to 18 years old.

This theatre studio will give teens a chance to explore the performing arts with a more in-depth approach. Participants can expect an immersive and challenging atmosphere as they are introduced to Intermediate character building and movement exercises, theatrical design and scene study.  This is a 16 week intensive workshop that will end with a live theatre production June 5th & 6th that will be open to the public. The class will meet every Thursday from 6-8pm for rehearsal & collaboration. This schedule will be more intensive as we get within two weeks of the production dates.

This acting studio is suitable for the beginner as well as the intermediate actor. If you have ever wanted to get inside look at the production process…this is your chance.

Why is theatre important?

The CLAES offers something very unique to this community. Not only do our patrons get a fun night out to the theatre, but the participants in the productions create friendships, develop skills, strengthen confidence as well as help establish strong identity that assists in overall mental and emotional health. A vivid arts and culture sector within a city strengthens the community, assists in closing the age gap between young and old as well as creates a healthy and more empathetic collective.

Instructor~ Teresa Pettit

With 24 years of experience in nearly every area of the theatre, Teresa brings her creativity, professionalism and passion for the performing arts to life. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she has written/produced/directed over 65 productions and a vast and diverse knowledge of every aspect of the theatre.

Teresa has facilitated intensive workshops for students 4 – 70 yrs old. Since the opening of The Grande Parlour in downtown Cold Lake, she has instructed all ages performances of The Jungle Book, A Charming Tale and Peter Pan.

She has also facilitated drama camps with the MFRC for the past three years.

From character development to scene study, rehearsals to performance, rest assured you will be in good hands from beginning to end.

This isn’t a “Kids” Workshop

We want to ensure that the young people who sign up for this workshop are committed and passionate not only to attending classes but also have the capacity to be directed on stage for a public production. This studio workshop will give a wide range of knowledge and skill to each participant but in return for the coaching we expect a high level of dedication and effort at each rehearsal. Because we only meet once a week for the first 16 weeks, there are expectations of focus and attention at each class. There will also be mandatory homework. (i.e. memorization, creative writing, research, character development, scene study etc…)

Due to the limited availability of registration opportunity and the intensive nature of the program we have instituted a three strike rule. Which means if rules and expectations are not followed or if behavior becomes a problem the instructor will issue a letter home or contact the parent of the child to discuss and inform the parent of the problem. If the problem persists or compounds with another problem a second warning will go home and discussion will be had with parents. If the issues continue to disrupt the class or the progress of our show the child will receive the final strike and at that time is no longer permitted to attend class and any fees paid are not refundable.
